Necron Crypt Cipher Language

I got an old Necron Monolith that I want to touch up and paint. Therefore I was looking for decals and informations about the Necron runes. However, there was hardly any information about this in the codexes. The codices did not have an alternate alphabet for the runes as in older versions of other armies (as for the Orc or Chaos runes).

So i first concentrated on the existing decals, of which there aren't a ton of different bows like the Space Marines. The most recent sheet I could find was from 2011. This is also the most extensive one and also includes all runes from older sheets.

The decals on the sheet can be roughly divided into 3 types:

1. On the left are runes made up of circle parts and straight lines
2. At the top right are the runes of the dynasties 
   
3. Below right are simplified electrical circuits

Only the first ones are interesting for the language. The circuits (3) are only suggested lines for decoration and the dynasty runes (2) are layered symbols for the individual units, which are already described in more detail in the 8th edition Necron codex.

The circle and line runes (1) look like they contain repeating parts. When they were created, only the futuristic look was probably taken into account. but it would be nice to have an alphabet for these runes to create your own which also have a meaning.

I searched a bit further and found the Cryptic Language - Crypt by Mageek. here
He started making a substitute alphabet. The characters are not exactly the same as in the decals, but the look fits very well. Since I also like the look very much, I took the characters as a basis to create vector graphics.

If you take the central axis, which is typical for Necron, vertical, it can look like this, for example:

Plague Marines

The seven Plague Marines from the start box are now build and based. The backpacks are missing on the picture, because I will paint them seperate. If I have enough time, they will get primed at the weekend.
Now I can set up four squads each 5 man strong (2 with plasma guns and 2 with blight launcher).

The call of the Lord of Decay

As mentioned in the last post, I have also some Death guard models on the tabel (with some fancy tablecloth 😀).

Seven Plague Marines are partially painted, 6 easy to build marines are fully build and seven more marines from the start box are going to come (one is sneaking in the downer left corner).

I also have found the missing Plaguebearers from which I strip the color, so that they can get the same look like there brothers and I can complete a 30 man squad.

Ongoing Projects

At the moment I have many projects in the making. Some are close the be finished and some are barely started. I hope a few will find a successful end in the not so far future.

Chaos Knights (3 models, close to end)
The Chaos Knight is now full painted (also with mounted head).
The main body, weapons and bases of the Wardogs are also finished, the shoulder pads and armour plates still need some paint.
All decals are still missing, but I have finished them in digital form, so I only need to print them somehow.

Plaguebearers (25 models, started paintig)
For the reinforcement of my chaos armys I started a 30 model strong Plaguebearers squad (6 still missing) with a Spoilpox Scrivener. The Plaguebearers are the 3. edition tin models.
I also plan to add a Nurgle Herold later for some more boosting.

Khorne Berzerker (12 models, built and primed)
Another reinforcement for chaos are a Squad of 10 Khorne Berzerker with a Khorne Lord and a Khorne Dark Apostle. The Lord is a lightly converted AoS model and the Apostle is mainly built from the new and old Chaos Marine kit.

This is all very chaos and 40k heavy, there a also some other projects for which I have no photos or aren't very advanced:

Spore Mines

The first post for 2020 and we start with some small and easy models.
For some narrativ missions I habe painted 10 Spore Mines. Maybe some more of these will follow and I will try to continue the build of my Anphilion Base.

Black Templars #5 (custom decals)

I have made some custom decals for my Black Templars.

They are only the chapter heraldic crosses, but I needed some smaller ones for shoulder pads with name plates. And in the newer Space Marine kits aren’t Black Templars crosses anymore.

I have used some cheap decal paper from Amazon for laser printers, worked very well.For the handling after the printing I find the liquids from Microscale very useful, which can be simply applied with a brush.
After the printing simply apply Liquid Decal Film for the sealing on the decal paper and let it dry. Then when you apply the decals first brush some Micro Set on the miniature. Applying then works like with every normal water slide decals (put some drops water on the decal and after it loses, slide it on the prepared place on the miniature and take the access water with some paper towel).

For a better adhesion and to minimize wrinkles apply Micro Sol after.

Chaos Knights #2 and Black Templars #4

The Chaos Knight is ready build and painted with the exception of the head and the heraldic shield, which are also painted but I wait with the assembly, till I have finished all heraldic.
For this I have bought some decal paper, which hopefully arrives in the next days, so that I can print some custom decals.
The knight also got a Icarus autocannon beside the two gatling guns.

Besides the knight I also started to build some more Black Templar from some leftover Space Marines. 
Next week the Faith and Fury campaign book will get released, so I hope they will get some good rules like the chapters of the first founding.

Chaos Knight (and a lost battle)

The last battle of the powerful warmaster Abaddon against the unworthy Ultramarines was shockingly not that great for the warmaster.
The lose of the initiativ, slow moving so that the first close combat was in the 4th battle round and a bad combat result from Abaddon himself (he only killed one Infiltrator. :O ) resulted in a defeat.

The normal Chaos Marines are not that great in the shooting phase, so I decided to reinforce the army with some heavy firepower of a Chaos Knight.
I build him with 2 gatling guns in a red and white color scheme.
Still wip, but already looking decent for me.

Possessed and Warcry

Hi, no sign of life till over a month, because of other stuff. But I have painted and build a little now and then.

First I have finished my older Possessed and even played a game with them.
I like the speed, invulnerable save and the 2LP from them, they work great with a Master of Possession and the special detachment.

The second is I have bought the Warcry starter box and have build the two warbands completely, started to build the terrain and even started with the painting of the first model (the Dominar from the Iron Golems).

Abaddon #2

Abaddon got some more colors, but is still wip.
The sword is just blue and I'm not really happy with the fire from the torch. This will be some more work till it looking good.

Abaddon #1

I have bought the new Abaddon model, wich is really amazing.
In his first game (only primed in black), he had a tough start as he lost all but one wounds. With these one wound left he killed 3 characters and nearly 10 Primaris Marines in close combat. Great!
So now he its time for some colors and I started the painting with grey drybrushing, black inking and a few details in gun metal.

Word Bearers Dark Apostle with Dark Disciples

After the rule changes for the Dark Apostle I need 2 Dark Disciples for him to make him more effective with his prayers. The models are an older chaos psyker from FW and one chaos cultist with other arms.

Black Templars #3

I have finished the 15 Black Templars Space Marines and they are ready for battle.
They can be set up as two 5-man squads with plasmagun and combi-plasma and one 5-man squad with a lasercannon.

Black Templars #2 and Terrain ('Anphilion Base' and crystals).

The 15 Black Templars bodys are now finished.
Backpacks and bolter got the ground colors and started there gunmetal details.
In the next stage some the remaining details get colors and all parts must be glued together.

I also started on some additional crystals, to enlarge the crystal field.
At the mement the crystals are only build and primed.

Inspired by the Anphilion Base from FW I  tested so cut some octagons.
On the second try it works pritty well so I build a prototyp of my version from that base and also start painting it. The roof is removable so also the inside is playable.
